Interior Design That Rocks!

Posted by Peter Gibson under General Design Advice

Welcome back! Take your time, enjoy, and subscribe to the RSS feed (or subscribe by email) if you haven't already.

All of the following photos come courtesy of Pangaea Interior Design, located in Portland Oregon. Here is a site and designer after my own heart. I could write a long post describing her talented eye, and wax poetically on the various techniques this designer employs to achieve such stunning results, but it just makes more sense to show you.

This work is brilliant, and I hope you take the time to check out her site (linked above) and perhaps comment on her work.

Pangaea uses complimentary colors in ways that exude symmetrical wonderment, and her choice of paint and wall finishes immerse you in the design interior. As you can see, Pangaea uses bold colors in the artwork to feature other decor decisions within the rooms, also combining colors at seemingly random intervals throughout, a decision which results in a very understated design and decorating cohesion. I’ve eluded to the benefits of color context in this post. Interior Living Room will be keeping a very close eye on this designer, and continue to praise her efforts.

And so again, in the grand words of my old English professor, “Nuf said on the subject.”

  1. Angela Todd Said,

This is a lovely contemporary space. Charcoals with pops of color are very hot this season and Pangaea has a knack for using varied texture in this space. Bravo!

Please do check the web link to her design site. It doesn’t appear to be working.

  2. Peter Gibson Said,

Angela, I’ve rechecked the link and fixed it. Should be working now. Yes they do have a knack for incorporating textures, a illustrated. I can’t wait for Pangaea to give us some more pictures, I found those very inspiring. :)

  3. Peter Gibson Said,

Angela, I’ve also had the chance to glance at your site. So I’m guessing now that everyone in Portland has access to some sort of “magic designer dust”? Very impressive work! I’ll definitely put a link to your site here as well (and I’ll double check it too lol)

Watched the Ron Marvin video on your site. Wow he really made his tiny apartment cozy. I often have trouble with smaller spaces, because it’s so easy to nit pick and not leave well enough alone. Ron did an excellent job keeping it simple and still making the space seem elegant.:)

    Great stuff. Love your blog!

  4. Marleen Said,

    Hey Peter
Great blog! I spent some time on it reading your other posts as well. I see our friend Angela has also found you. Very Cool. I love the photos above! Oranges and grays are a true love of mine and I’m thrilled they are in. The wall paint treatments in gray are yummy.

  5. Peter Gibson Said,

Thanks heaps Marleen! The blog is a new found passion of mine it would seem. I briefly glanced at your site as well and had a chance to subscribe. I will visit more when I have some proper study time. It looks smashing though and very informative! Please tell me you are not from Portland or I’m packing up my shop and moving there immediately lol!!

Aren’t the gray textures in Pangaea’s photos just brilliant? Those paint treatments were what hooked me on the photos, and subsequently on Pangaea. I hope to see more of her work soon – I was thoroughly impressed.

  6. Angela Todd Said,

Thank you for the compliment Peter. I admit we do have some fabulous designers here in the Northwest – Pangaea is a great example. Our secret is the inspiring great outdoors and our fresh air.

  8. Pangaea Said,

Peter, Just today I saw your post on my work and am writing to say thank you so very much for your kind words! I am new to blogging so it astonishes and tickles and delights me when connections with other people are made so far away. Regarding my work, I do wish I could take credit for those gray walls … but they are concrete! That loft has concrete floors and a 23 foot high ceiling with one entire side of the loft a concrete wall. I DO have gray walls in my own home though painted in a Ralph Lauren River Rocks paint which has a lot of sand in it. I love the really warm grays as a neutral with bright colors as accents. Thank you also for the link to my site. Please check back in because I am revamping my website and will have a much more extensive portfolio up soon.

I check several of your other posts and really enjoy the designers you’ve chosen to feature here. I’m definitely bookmarking your blog! Also tweeting this on twitter.

    All the best,
    Pangaea

  9. Irene Mckay Said,

Pangaea, I’m one of the people who emailed Peter over your wonderful work. Just in case you are following the comments here I have to say that your work is very striking. When I caught this post I had to show my husband as we are renovating our entire first floor this summer.

It’s too bad you don’t work in Liverpool! :)
